cout << "Hello, world!"

Hello, all. This is going to be my blog from now on. In case you haven't heard the news, I'll update you quickly:
  • I applied to the University of Aizu in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, and got accepted into the Graduate Department of Computer and Information Systems.
  • I've committed, and will be leaving in March 2016.
  • The program takes about two years, barring any interruptions during my studies.
This place is literally on the other side of the world. It's 6,634 miles away from my hometown of Old Saybrook, CT. It's also 13 (14 if DST) hours into the future, so most people would be reading my posts while I'd be asleep and vice versa.

I'm doing this blog as a portal. The past decade has made it easier for expats around the world to stay in touch with friends and loved ones left behind. A lot of people, especially when I come home, will have a multitude of questions for me on what the hell I've been doing over in Japan. Well, this blog is your collective answer.

For reference, the "DJP" part refers to the acronym that I used in high school for independent music projects that went nowhere. I'll post extensive details on what I've been up to, along with the occasional soapboxing. Basically, if it's too long or not catchy enough, it's going to be here. It will be mostly in English, but sometimes, I'll throw in some Japanese if I'm feeling the adrenaline.

As a matter of fact, most of you who read this post probably got here from Facebook. Big thanks to If This, Then That (you should definitely check that out; it can do some amazing stuff) for that capability. If something I post is humorous enough to spread, feel free to share the link to the post; everything is public anyways. Just give credit where it's due.
